TRUMP VOWS TO ‘TAKE OVER’ NYC IF PRO-PALESTINE CANDIDATE MAMDANI WINS

WASHINGTON — July 8, 2025 — Donald Trump is threatening a federal takeover of New York City if Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani becomes mayor — calling the pro-Palestine candidate a “communist” and warning, “New York City will run properly — or we’ll run it from Washington.”

“If a communist gets elected to run New York, it can never be the same,” Trump said during a Cabinet meeting, vowing to use White House authority to control cities if needed. “We have tremendous power... maybe we’ll have to straighten it out from Washington.”

Mamdani, 33, who has drawn national attention for his vocal support for Palestinian rights and bold housing reform, currently leads in the polls after shocking the establishment by defeating Andrew Cuomo in the June 24 Democratic primary.

His platform includes:

City-run grocery stores

A rent freeze

Expanding affordable housing by taxing NYC’s wealthiest 1%

Support for boycotts and divestment tied to Israel's occupation of Palestine

Trump offered no endorsement for the mayoral race but said Mamdani “would destroy the city,” signaling he could override local governance in both NYC and Washington, D.C. if elected president again.

“We want the capital of the United States to be run flawlessly. Same with New York.”

Vice President J.D. Vance added that Mamdani’s support comes from "rich white elites," contrasting with Trump’s working-class base.

Still, Mamdani’s grassroots campaign — powered by progressives, young voters, immigrants, and Palestinians in the five boroughs — is gaining momentum.
